As a true Mexican, I often miss my family’s cooking back in Mexico. In a city filled with Tex-Mex, authetic Mexican food is hard to find. Cuchara arrived to Houston’s diverse restaurant scene four years ago and it’s truly a gem! So if you are like me or Alex missing a good home cooked meal or Annie, who wants to get a taste of authetic Mexican cooking without traveling, Cuchara is the restaurant for you.
Nested in the heart of Montrose, Cuchara brings Mexico to you. From a kitchen ran by moms and grandmas, monthly events highlighting Mexico’s culture, murals painted by Mexican artists – this quirky restaurant warms your comfort food craving stomachs with food prepared straight from la cocina de tu abuela!
Cuchura prides in sourcing fresh ingredients daily, from their drink mixes and homemade salsa – you can definitely taste the difference. Ever want brunch for dinner? Well, at Cuchara you can get their delicious weekend brunch menu on the last Thursday of the month.
Ana and Charlie, the owners of Cuchara not only want their customers to taste authentic Mexico City cuisine but also learn about Mexican culture through their signature events. Some of their famous events are: Fiestas Patrias (Mexican Independence), Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and Posadas (Mexican Holiday Party). You can learn about upcoming events from their Facebook page: Cuchara Restaurant. Bonus: You can listen to live music by the trio playing popular Spanish ballads on the weekends during brunch and on the last Thursday of the month when they have the brunch menu.
When you come to Cuchara, toss your typical Tex-Mex chicken fajitas and chips and queso thoughts aside, be prepared to try some legit authentic Mexican food! We recommend the following dishes:

A little spin off to the traditional pozole, we absolutely LOVED the pozole verde! Its rich and flavorful taste is a true treat to the belly. Perfect for our impending breezy weather.
Can’t have Mexican food without a Mexican Coke! 😉

You can’t finish a meal without postre (dessert)! Who needs 3 Leches, when Cuchara has 5 Leches!

We really enjoyed the ambience and the food at Cuchara, we hope that you will enjoy it too!

Fun Fact: All the murals and art in the restaurant were painted by Ana’s sister Cecilia Beaven.
