I recently just came back from a 10 day California trip, which was amazing! Today, I want to share with you part of our trip to Lake Tahoe. When I was researching, I had a hard time finding a site where it highlighted to-dos in Tahoe and I was rather bummed! Hopefully you will find this post helpful for your trip 🙂
We planned the Tahoe stop for skiing and decided to stay in Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows. Since we traveled in a big group, we rented a house through HomeAway and it was perfect!
Tahoe is absolutely magical in the winter, but I hear it’s rather gorgeous in the spring/summer time as well.
Activities:
Ski/SnowboardDaniel and I wanted to take ski lessons and we opted to book it from Squaw Alpine, the main managing company of Squaw Valley. We could not have been more pleased! The full day lesson included rentals and lift ticket – it was such a good price as well.
The view from the top was incredible!!
Squaw Alpine ski area also had tons of restaurants and bars at the base. So, enjoy yourself a nice Moscow mule after a long day of skiing!
Spa Day @ Resort at Squaw Creek
After a long day of skiing, I couldn’t say no to a spa day… so I made a last-minute appointment at the Spa at Squaw Creek . First of all, this resort is gorgeous!! Majestic mountains frame the resort, there’s an ice-skating rink, the hotel has it’s OWN ski lift and a giant fire pit in the courtyard. At the spa, I had a hot stone massage, which was great. But I must say that my favorite part was enjoying the spa amenities; they have a steam room, sauna room, hot tub, and a heated pool – all accessible through the spa even if you are not a guest. Highly recommend!
Exploring Towns
All the little towns around northern Lake Tahoe are 10-15 mins within each other. We made pit stops at Kings Beach and Crystal Beach. Before we knew it, we hit Nevada! Between towns, you get a glimpse of lake views and it’s so calming.
Nosh/Booze:
We took advantage of staying at the house and cooked a lot. The supermarket is very close and convenient.
Mo’s Original BBQ
This dive bar/restaurant is nested right on the lake, serving up some mean BBQ. Coming from a Texan, this was good, the ribs fell off the bones and the sauce is just right.
King’s Cafe
We ate here for lunch after a pitstop at Kings Beach. It’s a small restaurant but the food is so good! I recommend this for a hearty breakfast or a fast lunch. Seating is limited inside but there are outdoor options as well.
Even though ski/snowboard season is coming to an end, I know Tahoe is beautiful throughout the seasons and hiking is amazing during the spring/summer. Can’t wait to plan another trip back.
Cheers,
Annie
